This work focuses on the effect of alloyed sulphur as MnS inclusions on microstructure and mechanical properties of oxide scale grown during isothermal oxidation of austenitic stainless steels. In this presentation, a correlation between the chemistry and microstructure of the oxide scale (chemical effect) and the mechanical and adhesion properties of the oxide scale (mechanical effect) is discussed. The differences in chemistry and microstructure lead to different adhesion and mechanical properties of the oxide scale.
