Compatibility of PETN Explosive with Polyurethane Binder in the Environment of Heat and Humidity

PETN explosive, polyurethane binder and their contact system were aged in the environment of heat and humidity.FTIR, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), SPME (solid phase microextraction) and GC-MS were employed to characterize the changes of condensed phase and gaseous components of the samples and the compatibility of PETN explosive with polyurethane binder was examined.The results show that the decomposition products of PETN promote the degradation of polyurethane and the self-acceleration decomposition of PETN.Moreover, humidity can speed up the interreaction between PETN explosive and polyurethane binder.
