Recent developments in Fluidized bed carbon (FBC) technology have made this a very cost competitive, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly method of abating VOC and controlling odors. Very high concentration ratios are possible (over 1000:1) depending on incoming VOC levels, or type of odor. With the high concentration ratios achievable, very small final treatment/destruction devices are possible. Supplemental natural gas usage is minimized, or possibly eliminated, depending on final treatment options. Generation of secondary pollutants, such as CO2 and NOx are also minimized. This system is being utilized in the automotive paint industry but is applicable to any industry with high air volumes and low concentrations of VOC levels (aerospace, etc.).
