Natural gas engines are increasingly the dominant prime mover in cogeneration applications because of their extremely high efficiency, rapid startup time, and relatively low capital and maintenance costs. In many areas SCR technology is required to allow these engines to meet local air emissions requirements. To meet these air emission requirements it is necessary to: consider multiple constraints including allowable pressure drop to accommodate the engine and downstream heat recovery devices; minimal temperature losses to conserve energy for downstream heat recovery; minimal space to lower overall facility construction costs; and be cost effective to ensure the overall project remains viable.
