The following conclusions can be drawn based on the results presented above: 1. In the present study, 3D PEHL simulation model is developed for problems associated with fine line contacts. 2. The model is 3D, taking into account the plastic deformation. This is required for analyzing practical problems with 3D roughness and geometric modifications that often greatly influence the lubrication characteristics. 3. The model is proven to be capable of simulating the entire transition of lubrication status from the full-film and mixed PEHL down to boundary lubrication and dry contact, and handling cases with significant 3D machined roughness under severe operating conditions.
