Summary form only given. Avalanche transistors are suitable for nanosecond pulses generating for applications such as triggering Pockel cells and microplasma generation 1 due to their extremely fast switching speed and low intrinsic inductance, however, the output pulse amplitude is severely limited by the low power capacity of single element. Pulse combining is an effective approach to enhance output pulse amplitude while adopting conventional pulse generating modules. However, the output saturation and waveform distortion are usually unavoidable in traditional pulse combining methods such as the inductive voltage adder and direct pulse combining. In this paper, a repetitive nanosecond pulses generator is designed based on the avalanche transistor Marx circuit, direct pulse combining and the transmission line transformer (TLT) to limit the output saturation tendency and maintain prominent advantages including narrow width.
