Smart city planning in India - A perspective on temporal and spatial data collection and analytics On-demand transport meter as a micro-agent for data collection

Efficeint smart city planning has become possible with the advent of information and communication technologies. It is an opportunity to provide better living conditions for the citizens of the ever-growing metropolitan cities. There are a few key sectors, which need to be enhanced for smart city development like transport, environment, economy and governance. Understanding the building blocks that are of critical importance to the above sectors can facilitate smart city development. This understanding can be gained through collection and analysis of big data that is temporally and spatially distributed throughout the city. The big data should contain information regarding many variables that are measured through appropriate sensors. In this paper we will describe how, Intellimeter, a fare meter for on-demand services can be used as a mobile micro-agent for the collection of this disparate data.
