The ASTRID reactor (Advanced Sodium Technological Reactor for Industrial Demonstration) should benefit from a large feedback from the previous French programs on SFRs (Rapsodie, Phenix, SuperPhenix). Thus, the starting core components of ASTRID will be fabricated with well documented reference materials such as 15/15Ti-like austenitic steels for the cladding tubes or 9Cr/1Mo-like martensitic steels for the wrapper tubes. However, additional R&D is welcomed to improve their description and to support their qualification: re-launching of fabrication, microstructure evaluation, mechanical properties assessment, behavior under and after irradiation up to 110 dpa at least. In addition, advanced materials such as advanced austenitic steels or promising ODS-steels are to be developed in order to increase the sodium reactors' performance: they should be qualified in ASTRID for a future use in commercial SFRs up to 150 dpa at least for the fuel cladding.
