The Liquid Robotics® (LRI) Adaptable Modular Power System (AMPS) is the modular, hierarchical power management and distribution system used in the Wave Glider® SV3 unmanned surface vehicle. It was designed to provide a scalable power management and distribution system common to a range of LRI Wave Gliders. Design constraints included fault isolation, a high degree of modularity, distributed computation and the need to support an unpredictable mix of power sources and consumers. This white paper will describe those constraints in detail and how the architecture of AMPS addresses them.
