A variable speed wind energy conversion system using a Direct torque controlled cage induction generator is discussed in this paper. The cage induction generator feeds power to the utility grid through a back-to-back PWM converter. The generator control system contains two hysteresis band limiters. One is to limit flux error within a specified band, and other one is for confining the torque error within specific limits. Control of cage induction generator is accomplished by PI controller based Direct Torque control (DTC) scheme. In order to get better performance a fuzzy controller is used in the torque loop in place of the PI controller. The whole scheme is simulated in Matlab and the results are interpreted. These results are then compared with the conventional PI controller results.
