Anticipated impact of the capability maturity model integration (CMMI) V2.0 on aerospace systems safety and security

Many aerospace programs use the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) V1.3 as the model for development. The CMMI Institute is preparing to release V2.0 that will be a major update to the model. The CMMI has been criticized for not directly addressing reliability concerns. Will the updated model address these deficiencies? We will describe what is known about the model update and discuss the possible impact each will have on reliability concerns. In addition, we will look broadly at the model and revisit the prior criticisms to determine their relevance in light of the updated model. Given the close coherence between the CMMI and NASA NPR 7150.2 [6] we will also examine how the model updates relate to the NPR, especially in light of reliability concerns.
