The GPR method is always used to locate the embedding pipes, however, it's hardly to determine their diameters, especially, when the underground pipe is full of the lossy medium (as water, oil, gas) in operation period. This paper firstly put forward a new method for probing and interpreting the diameter of underground pipeline filled with the lossy medium based on GPR by means of that the shape of a certain circle can be determined by the coordinates of three points on this circle. Moreover, the operation procedure of this method is listed in detail. Lastly, this method is applied to detecting the diameters of the underground pipelines in the model experiment of the actual project. The measurement value is approximately consistent with the real value. This demonstrates that the proposed method achieves good result.
