From this work, we have learned that the pressures applied by the obstetrician are only rarely over 20 psi (0.14 MPa) and are applied primary by the distal portions of the fingers. Only slight differences exist between residents and staff obstetricians. To fully capture the forces applied to the infant head, the next step of this research will need to examine the hand posture and the direction of forces applied by the fingers.
