摘要

Voltage and reactive power control is r elated to ensuring power quality and system voltage stability, while it has very important significance in reducing power loss and improving economic benefits. Automatic voltage control (AVC) heightens system efficiency and power quality by automatically monitoring and controlling reactive power of generators, transformer taps, capacitors and reactors, which is important to the reactive power and voltage regulation. AVC Sub- station in power plant plays an important role in AVC system. It receives real-time target voltage instruction, compares it to current voltage, calculates the reactive power and allocates it to each unit. This paper analyzes the present status of the voltage regulator and elaborates the need of AVC in hydro power stations. It also discusses the function, mode and the general principle of voltage regulator briefly. The paper presents the principle of reactive power dispatching in hydro power and introduces a better way. It focuses on how to calculate the reactive power and allocate it to each unit in the optimal way, and how to ensure safe and stable operation of AVC Sub-stations.
