A recently discovered catalyst system is being used to incorporate carbon dioxide into polymer chains which result in polycarbonate polyols. These "Green" polyols have been used to make aliphatic urethane hardcoats. The hardcoats are curable at room temperature and elevated temperatures. They have enough pot life to be a one-component system. They adhere well to polycarbonate, glass and polyurea transparent armor. The hardcoats have excellence resistance to degradation by UV radiation, improve abrasion resistance of polycarbonate and have good resistance to acids, bases and solvents.
