As an efficient and practical thermal insulation material, low density polyurethane (PU) rigid foam needs to deliver good compressive properties to meet mechanical requirements of various applications. In this work, a simple method was established to evaluate compressive properties of PU rigid foam samples prepared in cups. Structure-property relationships were examined for PU rigid foam model systems in terms of foam density, foam age, crosslink density, aromaticity, and isocyanate index. Results were found to be in agreement with theory, indicating that this simple method can be used as an efficient tool for quick screening during product development.
