摘要

In order to accommodate the wide range of applications andthe corresponding platforms where the H.264/AVCstandard is currently in place, one should be able tooptimize the encoder's computational complexity with acareful selection of the coding configuration parameters.Motion estimation is the most time-consuming part of theencoder which constitutes up to 75% of the computationalcomplexity. In this paper, the optimum selection ofconfiguration parameters, including search range, referenceframe, degree of down-sampling and number of truncationbits have been analyzed for the VLSI implementation ofinteger motion estimation in terms of distortion-complexityperformance. Furthermore, the optimum parameter setshave beenpresented for different video sizes and differentconstraints on computational power.
