Current cutter head dredges utilize the rotational motion of the cutter head to size and move the materialtowards the dredge suction inlet. This paper examines the possibility of using waterjets and cavitation inconjunction with a conventional mechanical cutter head and how it improves excavation efficiencies andmaterial recoveries, while reducing the environmental impacts associated with sediment loss andpollution.
