The ANS Fire PRA Standard was developed by a team of Fire PRA experts starting in 2002 and finally approved in November of 2007 (ANS-58.23-2007). The Standard used as input previous Fire PRA methods use throughout the nuclear industry, including the latest Fire PRA method issued in 2005, NUREG/CR-6850 (EPRITR-1011989). The ANS Standard requirements were input into the ASME PRA Standard in early 2008, with no technical changes to the requirements. Neither the new Fire PRA method nor the Fire PRA standard was fully piloted prior to the issuance of the standard. This paper discusses technical issues considered in the development of the Fire PRA standard, and the results of the pilot review of the standard in early 2008 at several plants. The feedback from the pilots will be provided including the impact on the Fire PRA standard including possible revision to the standard.
