Future Research Needs in Ship Structures The Shipyard Perspective

1. Majority of current work is related to lightweight aluminum structure not suitable for constructing large commercialaval vessels 2. Future work needs to advance design and construction techniques for steel to allow the same type of reduction in weight for large ships as is being pushed for smaller high performance craft today 3. Results need to be fed back to classification societies and Tech Warrant Holders (TWH) to update rule sets to which we are designing our ships.
