Surface roughness has a significant influence on the amount of residue remaining on the surface after impact, with the results consistently showing a minimum in the effective adhesion for a rough surface. The polyure-thane based superhydrophobic coating showed no contamination. This was mainly attributed to the high roughness value but also due to the low surface energy and chemistry. In order to establish the effect of surface chemistry, coatings with similar chemistry but different roughness values will be evaluated. Coatings which exhibited the best anti-contamination properties will also be tested using airfoil sections.
