Nano-modified wire coatings and impregnating resins have been evaluated on a small scale by laboratory tests. These evaluations indicate improved resistance to electrical stresses such as fast rise time square waves. When electrical equipment is exposed to voltages above the Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (PDIV) damage occurs to the electrical insulation. Increasing the PDIV of electrical equipment should result in longer operating life. This study evaluates the thermal component of operating life using non-functional specimens and the PDIV on stators.
