Being the most seriously infected area by saline water intrusion in China, Laizhou Bay southern plain has a more complicated land use change and driving mechanism, making great sense to research its land use dynamics. Based on hydro-geological characteristics, this area can be divided into three parts, saline water sub-region, freshwater sub-region and transition one. Land use transformation analysis was carried out in Laizhou Bay southern Plain by comparison of three phases images, 1988, 1995 and 2000, using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System technology. From Spatial and statistical analysis, correspondence between land use change characteristics and seawater intrusion was obviously represented. During 1988-1995, saline intrusion developing wildly, land use structure just underwent drastic change. In 1995-2000, saline intrusion began to decline, and land use conversion reduced consequently. And land use change showed obvious discrepancy in three hydro-geological sub-regions even within the same time. Saline intrusion determined direction of land use change. After calculation of Canonical Correlation Analysis, main socio-economical driving factors are extracted, that is, population pressure, industrial structure adjusting and industry development. They boosted the explosion of construction land, by occupying large area of cropland and unclaimed land.
