This article presents an analytical model that applies Queuing Theory to analyse the performance of the grooming node in a WDM Network. Grooming nodes were analysed based on the conditions of WDM-Wavelength and WDM-without Wavelength conversion configurations. The main predictive parameters investigated were the blocking probability and the traffic time delay. A comparison of the results from an analytical model and from the simulation model demonstrated good agreement. The model is therefore a simple, fast and accurate alternative for the performance analysis of nodes in WDM Networks using both WDM-Wavelength and WDM-without Wavelength conversion system configurations, specifically when considering the blocking probability and the time delay.
