In this paper a new discontinuous synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging framework is proposed to extent the traditional continuous SAR imaging method. With a general disorder-like cloud representing the discontinuous sampling positions and a radar parameter set with spatial dithering features, the backscattered echoes could be focused by the polar format algorithm (PFA) under non-aliasing conditions. Two specific applications, the multi-track high resolution (MTHR) mode and the multi-track undersampling (MTUS) mode, are further discussed to show potential applications and advantages of the discontinuous SAR imaging framework. The presented approach is evaluated by the target simulations.
