A Novel Ultra-Wideband Circular Slot Antenna Excited with a Dipole Element

The described UWB planar slot antenna is compact with its dimension of 4 cm x 4 cm considering only the radiating element. The main benefit compared to other single-ended and differential planar antennas is the very uniform radiation characteristic over frequency, leading also to a good time domain behavior. This performance makes the antenna very attractive for all kind of UWB systems, where small front-ends are desired and, in particular, if differential MMICs are used.
