Creating Celtic art using fractal image generation

摘要

This paper firstly shows the uncanny link between Celtic art and fractal images and then describes how an experimental fractal image generation tool can be used to create self-similar patterns that resemble Celtic art. Both Celtic art designs such as the spiral pattern and fractal images contain common features such as self-similarity and scaled repeating images that can be created from iterating an initial simple geometric object such as a triangle or Bezier curve. The final iterated image produced is a seemingly complex yet self-similar image. The fractal image generation tool used is an experimental tool based on the extended Hata-Hutchinson fractal image generation method, since it is capable of producing a wide variety of fractal image patterns and designs.
