Wearables and smart devices are making their way into people's life bringing constant connectivity. The inclusion of bio-sensors into these devices allows for a pervasive and constant monitoring of habits and also physical condition and physiological variables. In particular, seamless heart rate measurements can be of paramount importance in cardiac conditions, paving the way to personalized health care scenarios. However, reliability and accuracy of these sensor platforms remains an issue that is many times not properly addressed by manufactures. To shed some insight into this issue a smart device was placed against state-of-the-art equipment to assess its accuracy in heart rate measurements.
