Corrosion and tribocorrosion behaviour of Si_3N_4/35TiN ceramic composite in solutions simulating biological fluids

The corrosion and tribocorrosion behaviour of Si3N4/35vol%TiN composite was studiedin pH 7.4 and pH 4.0 PBS solutions. Under loads in the range 3-30 N and constantsliding rate, the Rp values were about 2 orders of magnitude lower than thoserecorded under free corrosion conditions, where icor values as low as 0.1-0.3 μA cm~(-2)were obtained. The wear corrosion process was investigated by SEM-EDS and thewear rates were evaluated by a 3D optical profiler.
