The aim of the present paper is the application of fuzzy algorithms in the response control of a base isolated building with MR dampers. Most of the previous researches in this field have been focused on fuzzy algorithms with linear membership function but in the current study, the membership functions are assumed to be Gaussian. For this purpose, an eight-story building model with regularity in plan and height is assumed. The adopted base isolation system includes linear bearings and MR dampers to reduce the demand to the super-structure and the base displacements. In order to verify the control algorithm nonlinear dynamic analyses using seven near fault ground motions were conducted. The simulation procedure demonstrates the effectiveness of using the fuzzy logic algorithms can optimize the control of the MR damper and produces superior structural response compared to the same system without the MR dampers.
