Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a theoretically secure method of generating and distributing cryptographic keys. Its proven security is based on quantum nature of light. While QKD is theoretically secure there may be security deficiencies in real, practical implementations using non-ideal hardware. In this report we discuss security aspects of QKD and possible tests that may provide insight into the security of real QKD implementation of relevance to National Security Space missions.
