Comprehensive Development Design Optimizing Water Conservation

Water conservation techniques and sustainable design are essential to meet the increase in water demand for regional water suppliers, but are the current rules compatible to allow true water saving measures to be implemented? A case study of a planned mixed use community points out the barriers to utilizing water conservation measures in the current laws and rules that govern water use in Texas. Following the worst drought year on record for the region and the state, agencies are more focused on the precedent setting elements of the water rights request than on the potential gains to the regional water supply.
