Recent debates at code hearings and in standards development committees have raised questions regarding the capacity of wall systems with exterior rigid foam sheathing attached directly to wall studs to resist out-of-plane wind pressures. This research assess the out-of-plane performance of exterior wall systems with rigid foam sheathing under dynamic negative pressure wind loading, with specific focuses on measuring the capacity of various wall systems with rigid foam sheathing and evaluating the pressure equalization effects across the layers of the wall system. Several wall systems with exterior foam sheathing and various levels of interior and exterior finishing were evaluated.
