There is a growing interest in the construction industry in using nanotechnology to improve the performance of building materials. One of the implementations of these materials is the use of Nano-Silica in cement-based mixes, especially mortar mixes. This paper focuses on using Nano-Silica in mortar mixes to improve their rheological properties, mechanical properties, and durability. It also provides a comparison to show the effect of different doses of Nano-Silica on the mechanical properties of mortar mixes. The effect of Nano-Silica on the mechanical properties of cement mortars is analyzed using available test results in literature. It was found that a portion of Nano-Silica particles reacts with products of hydration, leading to an increase in Calcium Silicate Hydrate gel in mortar mixes; thus, it enhances the mechanical properties and durability. The remaining Nano-Silica particles that have not reacted act as nano-fillers, filling the voids of the mix, and leading to denser mixes with higher durability. However, there are some health risks associated with the use of these materials.
