In 2008 the Florida Department of Transportation began a mill and resurface project on interstate highway 95 east of Fellsmere on the north and south sides of county road 512 (CR512). They began the project by requesting proposals to survey these areas to get volume estimates as well as information on the accuracy of monuments and points that would be used during the resurface. Two companies, Company A and Company B, sent proposals which were accepted by Florida Department of Transportation to begin the survey portion of the project. Each company had one section to complete with about a 1.6 km overlap at CR512. Upon submittal of the project results, there seemed to be a discrepancy in the baseline bearing which created a point of intersection at CR512. In this project, these two previous projects are analyzed by finding monuments these companies did not, and by comparing all results with the original construction plans. The final product of this project is the correct baseline bearing and distance to the point of intersection at the curves north and south of CR512, which creates a smooth tangent piece of road between these curves. This final bearing and distance is recommended for the mill and resurface project and this study outlines the approach, findings and results of this project.
