摘要

In this paper, we propose an occupant sensing system using distance sensors composing of ultrasonic distance (USD) sensor and infrared distance (IRD) sensor for a smart airbag. This sensing system is used for real-time detection of position and body classification of occupants. The USD sensor is located in front of an occupant in a vehicle jig. The IRD sensor array consisting of 9 IRD sensors is placed on top of an occupant. The USD sensor and IRD sensor array recognize the position of the occupant. By using this sensing system within a vehicles jig, the proposed system is experimentally evaluated in viewpoint of a real-time occupant detection performance. Through experimental results, we confirm that the proposed sensor fusion system can be applied to future smart airbag system.
