Organizational quality climate of a rubber products factory in China

Traditional quality works mainly focus on the causes from things, rather than the causes from people. In fact, most causes of failure are human errors of designer and manufactures. Organizational errors on quality are the root causes of these failures. Thus, improving quality culture is an effective methodto prevent failures. The concepts of quality culture, as a part of organizational culture, is deemed to be an attitude and set of values employed by a company to improve the levels of quality in its service. Quality climate is a "snapshot" of quality culture. The themes of quality climate are prevented, and a questionnaire for quality climate survey is developed, which can be used to measure and improve organizational quality performance. Quality climate of a rubber products factory located in North China is surveyed using the questionnaire. 53 employees of the rubber products factory participate in this quality climate survey. It is concluded that 1) employees be apt to assume that quality professionals should be charged with quality error; 2) employees know little stories about management emphasizing quality management; 3) employees need more quality education and training; 4) employees perceive that organizational quality performance needs to be improved; 5) quality professionals cannot get higher pay than other employees; 6) employees think that the management gives priority to quality management; 7) quality supervision and quality training play an important role in quality management; 8) employees agree on top management commitment and participation to quality; 9) first floor workers in the organization are apt to assume that quality and quantity of equipments meet the needs of quality control; 10) first floor workers in the organization are apt to assume that the fluke mind on quality issues of employees in this organization is infrequent; 11) first floor workers in the organization are apt to assume that employees of this organization take the initiative in quality issues.
