Interregional Sugar Trade Flows in China: A Estimation by Spatial Equilibrium Model

This paper aims to identify the trend of sugar distribution in different provinces of China by Spatial Equilibrium Model. Simulation results showed sugar was distributed from a limited number of producing areas to the whole country in current distribution pattern compared with the original distribution pattern that sugar was distributed from many main producing areas to their neighboring provinces. Now the sugar production is concentrated in a few provinces in China. The pattern of transferring Southern sugar to the North is increasingly prominent in China's sugar economy. Therefore, to improve distribution efficiency is crucial to China's sugar market regulation. Also, sugar import-export in Beijing, Shandong and Liaoning provinces has an important effect on the sugar trade flow among Chinese regions, especially the sugar economy development in major producing areas, such as Guangxi.
