Oil and gas is known to be the most metal-consuming branch of industry. About 8% of world metal production is annually spent on manufacturing oil and gas extraction equipment, pipelines and refinery equipment. Unfortunately, corrosion remains the main reason of accidents taking place in this field. In spite of great successes achieved in development and application of insulating coating and electrochemical protection, every third accident detected at pipelines is caused by corrosion. Although there are well known optimal methods of using refinery equipment materials application, and even though economical and convenient ways of protection have been developed, every second refining operation accident has to do with corrosion. The experience accumulated in revealing the reasons for corrosion accidents shows that in most cases they are connected with insufficient training of personnel in the field of corrosion.
