Four smooth pulses with strongly decaying spectra are investigated as piecewise basis functions suitable for the SDA analysis of microstrip lines with open sidewalls, such that the integral tail slow convergence problem is canceled. These pulses are inedited and they fulfill all of the SDA theoretical requirements. Besides the computational enhancement of the method, the proposed functions yield a continuous current density profile which restitutes with a maximum of accuracy the physical reality.
