This work presents a detailed analysis of central receiver solar power plants as a function of design parameters mainly related to heliostats characteristics. : (ⅰ) geometrical: rectangular versus circular heliostats, width to height ratio in rectangular heliostats or radius in circular heliostats and reflecting area, and (ⅱ) optical: reflectivity, reflecting surface errors and focusing or flat mirrors. In particular, the study establishes the optical performances for central receiver power plants from mini-heliostats (1 m~2) toward mega-heliostats (1,200 m~2) in the range of thermal capacities between 5 and 250 MW_(th). WinDelsol 1.0 software (Fernandez et al., 2001, Proc. of the 15th Task Ⅲ Meeting within IEA SolarPACES on Solar Technology and Applications, Cologne, Germany, June 19, SolarPACES Tech. Report. DLR, Koeln, Germany), which contains the DELSOL3 code Kistler, 1986, Sandia report SAND86-8018) was used for the analysis. The main results will be described and discussed.
