The Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) retained ARCADIS-Malcolm Pirnie (AUS-MPI) to evaluateand recommend a residuals management strategy for the Elm Fork Water Treatment Plant(EFWTP). The alternatives evaluated included lagoon disposal, onsite mechanical dewateringwith private contract hauling or City of Dallas hauling, and collection system disposal to theDWU wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Each alternative was evaluated using qualitativeand quantitative comparison criteria to determine the best solution for not only EFWTP but theentire DWU program. The results showed that collection system disposal would not be the bestsolution due to the impacts to the DWU WWTPs, lagoon disposal was the most attractivealternative, but mechanical dewatering with City of Dallas hauling is a viable program widesolution in comparison. AUS-MPI is currently evaluating this program wide solution in furtherdetail to validate the assumptions made at the study level and present the results to DWU for anultimate recommendation on their residuals management strategy.
