This paper introduces a two layer coordinated approach for optimal location, sizing and scheduling of battery energy storage system (BESS) with conjunction of conventional Volt-VAR control (VVC) devices in presence of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) penetration. This approach aims to minimize the energy demand by allocation of BESS in coordination of multiple VVC devices. The proposed approach is compromises of outer and inner layers, at outer layer is to select the location and size of BESS and inner layer is to select active and reactive power dispatch of PV inverter, BESS inverter and setting of VVC devices. This approach has been validated on IEEE 33 distribution bus system. The test results exhibit the importance of the proposed approach in the energy demand reduction while mitigating the voltage violations.
