The Integrated Naval Ship Condition Assessment Toolset (INSCAT), currently underdevelopment for the U.S. Navy, is comprised of several software subsystems integrated into asingle toolset for monitoring the structural health of naval ships. The INSCAT architectureincludes a multi-tiered Computer Aided Design (CAD) based GUI for displaying pertinentStructural Health Monitoring (SHM ) data, SHM algorithms for real time situational awarenessand long term SHM oversight, and a flexible data interface to facilitate integration with currentNavy systems such as the Integrated Condition Assessment System (ICAS).In this paper, we present the results of our research and development of novel Self OrganizingMap (SOM) based SHM algorithms that will be used as part of the INSCAT to process differenttypes of current and future SHM sensor data (e.g. strain, acceleration, sea-state, ship speed, etc.),and provide both real time situational awareness and long term oversight awareness of a ship'sstructural health.
