We numerically study the large strain free-end torsion of extrudedmagnesium alloy bars based on the recently developed ElasticVisco-Plastic Self-Consistent (EVPSC) model, in which both slipand twinning contribute to plastic deformation. It is shown thatthe predicted second-order length change is very sensitive to theinitial texture and texture evolution. Numerical results suggestthat the free-end torsion test can provide an effective means forassessing the adequacy of polycrystal plasticity models formagnesium alloys.
