Canada is now the largest supplier of imported crude oil to the United States and currently provides approximately 10% of crude refined in the country. A significant portion of this crude is derived from heavy oil sands bitumen produced in Alberta and primarily processed in PADD2. Western Canada's aggressive oil sands growth plans, coupled with numerous pipeline expansion projects, will make bitumen more readily available to refiners in the USGC and other regions in the U.S. The flexibility to process heavy bitumen can provide a significant competitive advantage by reducing feedstock cost.
