The futurist Alvin Toffler once described knowledge as "the most democratic source of power." But there's a caveat to this: the power of knowledge can only be realized insofar as it is accessible to its users. Differences in accessibility of knowledge within the workforce create a schism in productivity known as the "de-synchronization effect." De-synchronization occurs within and between groups of workers and, left unchecked, can impact entire organizations.
