Efficiencies in Web-Based Crash Reporting

The availability of full crash data is of paramount importance when conducting crash analyses and developing safety countermeasure recommendations. A problem arises when data needed for these analyses is incomplete, inaccurate, or difficult to find because of the ways crash reports are recorded by police and civilians, and are entered into crash databases. A simple, user-friendly, uniform crash reporting system available to police and authorized civilians using an online or web-based platform would vastly improve data uniformity and accessibility. It would also save money by eliminating paper and postage, by eliminating the need for proprietary software installed on individual computers, and by increasing efficiency in troubleshooting crash causes and recommending crash countermeasures.
