Based on the statistical properties of material parameters of 314 m high Shuangjiangkou gravel-clay co re rockfill dam, the p robabilistic slope stability analyses for the critical slip surface of the dam slope are perform ed using the Monte-Carlo method. The uncertainty of the shear strength and the spatial variation of the soils and the f luctuation of the phrea tic line in th e dam are considered in analysis. The factor of safety and the reliability index of the dam slope under different construction and reservoir i mpounding stages are investigated. The results show that the reliability index of the da m slope with a larger factor of safety is not always bigger than that with a sm aller factor of safety. Therefore, for the evaluation of the stability of the embankm ent dam slopes, the assessment of dam safety will be more scientific and reasonable if the uncerta inty of property parameters of the soils can be considered.
