The aim of this paper consists to highlight in which case asymmetric coupled microstrip structures can be studied by symmetric line model in order to use the quasi-symmetric approach. For this purpose, a rigorous formulation was developed; trial functions of C and π modes were obtained from the quasi-symmetric case, and thus proposed for the asymmetric case. A comparative study of dispersion parameters demonstrated the limits of the quasi-symmetric model validity with respect to asymmetries due to influence of shielding and metal strips widths difference.
